about the luminary
The Luminary is a Boise-based, female founded theatre ensemble. The ensemble was founded in 2024 by Dayna Smith and Jen Stockwell-Fortner after sharing sentiments of there being both a lack of opportunity and a lack of fresh, female-centered theatre in the Boise Valley.
Our goal is to share innovative, dynamic, bold and contemporary theatre centered around the female and gender-expansive experience in Boise that is created in Boise and by local Boise-based artists. We believe that there is a gap in our community for wild, new, and weird theatre that specifically tells the stories of women in ways we haven’t seen.
At a time when we as a culture are looking closely at the experiences and sometimes impossible expectations of modern womanhood, creating theatre that focuses on this broad spectrum of experiences feels extremely necessary. As we move toward equity, fairness, healing, community, and connectivity, seeing stories of modern women onstage is a huge step toward changing society at large.
We firmly believe that theatre changes the world. Sharing new stories and experiences with audiences allows them to see others more fully, and leave the theatre as people with fuller perspectives and more compassion. We believe this work is essential and are thrilled to be working in Boise.
