THE MEDEA PROJECT is a collaborative theatre production between The Boise Bard Players and The Luminary. Under the direction of Amanda Baschnagel, the cast and crew will devise a modern translation of Euripides’ classic myth, originally written in 431 BC in Ancient Greece.
What does it mean to “devise” a new version of Medea?
In the performing arts, devising a play is a highly collaborative method of making theatre where the script or performance is generated organically by the entire ensemble, rather than staging a pre-existing script.
Instead of a traditional model where a single playwright writes a script and a director instructs actors on how to perform it, this devised production based on Medea is built from the ground up, and will be written by the cast performing the piece.
